LSA Technology and Performing Arts College – LED Lighting Installation

UK Energy Lighting were commissioned by Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College to undertake a lighting audit to evaluate their lighting energy and maintenance usage.

We compared their existing lighting/energy costs against the potential savings of a full LED lighting installation.

Using our interest free energy efficiency financing package, Lytham St Annes College are now saving over 64% on their annual usage and costs – approximately £30,000 per annum savings.

Project Overview

  • Energy Spend before LED installation: £46,531.27

  • Energy Spend after LED installation: £16,706,35

  • Annual Savings: £29,824,67

  • Annual Payments: £23,676,00
  • Annual Cash Gain: £6,148,92
  • Total savings over the next 10 years with LED Luminaires: £298,249,15

The Brief

The brief was to replace the complete existing lighting system with a brand-new efficient LED Lighting installation maximising energy savings at every opportunity.

The initial audit identified a potential saving of over £29,000 per annum.

UK Energy Lighting worked with Peter Webster, Business Manager from LSA  to create a business case to be submitted to Salix as part of the application process.

The business case and saving calculations were submitted to Salix who independently checked and verified the savings through a 2 weeks’ technical check period.

The Solution

Once the savings were checked and confirmed the funds were then allocated to the school by Salix as an interest free loan to cover the entire cost of the project.

The Installation planning began and the project was planned and executed during the summer holidays with the final 10% of the school completed in the following October half term.

UK Energy Lighting managed the project from audit to design to funding application and then continued to work closely to support the school’s preferred contractor to install the lights during the summer holiday period.

““LSA Technology & Performing Arts College is one of the largest schools in the North West with over 1400 students populating its campus.

With energy bills exceeding £120,000 the school had tried a number of different ways to materially reduce its annual spend. Most of these efforts involved staff and students remembering to turn off lights and equipment and close windows and doors so was not always practical or effective.

As a local supplier the school approached UK Energy Lighting to carry out a survey to look at the possibilities of a full LED installation. Throughout the process UK Energy Lighting were able to guide us through the jargon and the technicalities which allowed a decision to be taken to proceed, and with the further help of a Local Authority approved electrical installer the project was completed on time and within budget during the summer break in 2016

Although there were initial concerns around the project being delivered within the timescale, working with UK Energy Lighting proved to be a very positive experience, with the focus at all times directed towards the needs of the school. With such a large project it was inevitable that issues would arise but these were dealt with calmly and professionally by the design/install team, with the school being involved at every stage of resolution.

A further project is being considered at the school regarding the floodlights on our all-weather pitch and I will have no hesitation in working with UK Energy Lighting once again.

I am now looking forward to reporting back to Governors on the savings achieved and a job well done!””
